Challenge - a covid emergency
In the UK, prior to the lockdown, there was a growing interest in how businesses in Europe, especially in Spain and Italy, were addressing sanitisation in the fight against Covid-19. A method known as ‘fogging’, which involves applying a sanitiser in a way that it appears as a fog, was frequently used.
Recognising its potential, a small team began to research fogging, aiming to provide enhanced cleaning services to clients during the inevitable UK lockdown.
This task was challenging due to concerns about the quality and pricing of fogging machines, mostly imported from China, and the uncertainty regarding the effectiveness of the sanitisation chemicals used.
Understanding Fogging

There was keen interest in how European businesses used fogging for Covid-19 sanitisation.
2. The FSG team
Embarked on researching fogging, a method where sanitiser is applied in a fog-like form.

Included inflated prices and questionable quality of fogging machines, mostly imported from China.

Uncertainty surrounded the effectiveness of the sanitisation chemicals used in these machines.
Solution
The focus shifted to researching the sanitisation chemical rather than the fogging machine.
This approach led to an important discovery: simply using a regular sanitisation solution in a fogging machine could neutralise the chemical’s effectiveness.
The solution was to find a sanitiser proven to be effective against Covid-19. The selected product, manufactured and tested in the UK, met these requirements.
Additionally, understanding the difference between wet and dry fogging — primarily the droplet size — was crucial. The team opted for a wet mist method. Fortuitously, the chosen sanitisation solution provider also manufactured a bespoke fogging machine in the UK, which was certified effective against Covid-19.
